I am once again here with an answer to another question. Today we will talk about KVPY exam, but before that some questions, are you interested in science subject and are you doing 11th 12th science. What is KVPY Exam

KVPY means Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana. And this is the National Level Fellowship program of basic science field. In this, KVPY Aptitude Test is conducted every year by IISc i.e. Indian Institute of Sciences Bangalore.

Let us also tell you that this fellowship program started in 1999 and is funded by the Science and Technology Department of the Government of India. The main reason for this program is to encourage students to make career in science field.

And for this program, the eligible students are given scholarship and grant till Pre-Ph.D level. It is an online exam in which the selection is done in those students who are from 11th class to basic sciences in any undergraduate program 1st year like B.Sc, B.S, B.Stat, B.Math, Integrated M.Sc. and Integrated M.S

And those who also have scientific research aptitude, shortlisted students are interviewed after the Aptitude test. And for the fellowship, the marks of both Aptitude Test and Interview are considered.

What is the eligibility of KVPY exam?

KVPY Fellowship is given to Indian Nationals who want to do their higher studies by staying in India. And such students who are doing or going to do under graduate program with distance education are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

There are 3 streams in KVPY exam

  1. SA
  2. SX
  3. SB

SA stream is for those students who are in class 11th and who are studying science. For students studying in SX 12th class Science. And SB is for students studying basic science in the first year of graduation.

SA Stream

Students who have passed class 10th board exam and they are eligible to take admission in science stream in class 11th, those students should apply for the exam. But one thing has to be kept in mind that they must have passed in class 10th with at least 75% marks in Maths and Science subjects.

For SC, ST, and PWD candidates, it is necessary to have at least 65% marks in class 10.

These fellowships will be active for the selected students only when they pass the 12th board exam with at least 60% in Science subject. And will take admission in Under Graduate course in basic science.

SX Stream

Those students who have taken admission in Science stream can apply for this stream. But such a student is required to pass in class 10th with 75% marks with Mathematics and Science subject.

The students belonging to SC, ST, and PWD, category need to get at least 65% marks. Another important thing is that they must have done further studies in science stream.

The student who is also selected in Fellowship will also have to get at least 60% marks in class 12th. And they will start getting fellowship only when they are confirmed to do graduation from science stream.

SB Stream

Students who have passed 12th board exam and appeared in first year and doing basic science courses like B.Sc, B.S, B.Stat, B.Math, Integrated M.Sc, and Integrated M.S. So such students can apply for this Aptitude Test.

Such students should have at least 60% marks in class 12th and also have to score 60% marks in the final exam of the first year of graduation. The minimum marks for the students of SC, ST, and PWD category is 50%.

KVPY Exam Pattern

This exam is done online in which the question paper is in both English and Hindi language. In this, Multiple Choice Questions are asked. Talking about the timing of the exam, there is an exam of 3 hours. And the total marks are 100.

In this paper, questions are asked from the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. And to prepare for this aptitude test, you must read the NCERT book.

This paper has two sections Part-1 and Part-2 and both of these parts have 4 sections. It is necessary to do all the questions in Stream SA. Whereas in Stream SB and Stream SX there is an option that students can attempt any 3 section in Part 1 and attempt any 2 section in Part 2.

What is the pattern of Question Paper

There are total 80 questions in the question paper of Stream SA, out of which there are 60 questions in Part 1 and 20 questions in Part 2. Each question of Part 1 is of 1 mark whereas each question of Part 2 is of 2 marks. 0.25 marks are deducted for wrong answer in part 1 and 0.5 marks are deducted for wrong answer in part 2.

There are total 120 questions in SB and SX Stream exam. Out of which you have to make only 80 questions, their marks are 100. There are 80 questions in Part 1 and each question is of 1 mark and 0.25 marks are deducted for one wrong answer. Whereas in Part 2 there are 40 questions and each question carries 2 marks, in which 0.5 marks are deducted for wrong answers.

Candidate’s Reasoning and Analytical Abilities are evaluated in Aptitude Test. And the candidate has to get 75% marks out of the total marks. And the students who pass the Aptitude test reach the interview round where Science and Research field, Knowledge, Abilities, Aptitude related information is taken.

As far as the interview round is concerned, the candidate should carry all these documents with him:-

  1. Category Certificate (If Applicable)
  2. Self Appraisal Form
  3. Attested copy of 10th and 12th Marksheets
  4. Interview Call Letter
  5. Study Certificate Form
  6. Medical Certificate (If Applicable)

So after both these Aptitude and Interview test, the merit list of KVPY is prepared and this evaluation is based on 75% marks of Aptitude test and 25% marks of interview preformation.

How much is KVPY Scholarship Amount?

Students selected on the basis of Aptitude Test and Interview are given KVPY Scholarship or Fellowship in which SA, SX, and SB under B.Sc, B.S, B.Stat, B.Math during first to third year of month 5 thousand. Fellowship of Rs. And the Annual Contingency Grant is 20 thousand rupees.

Whereas during the course of M.Sc under SA, SX, and SB or on the basis of 4th and 5th year of Integrated M.Sc, M.S, M.Math, M.Stat, 7 thousand fellowship is given. And Annual Contingency Grant 28 thousand rupees are given.

What is the KVPY exam fee?

1000 for general and OBC category students to fill the KVPY exam form. Whereas for SC, ST, and PWD candidates this fee is Rs 500.
