Michigan Wolverines lose 34-11 to Georgia Bulldogs in College Football Playoff semifinals
Despite a late touchdown pass from J.J. McCarthy to Andrel Anthony, the Michigan Wolverines’ defense was not able to contain Georgia’s potent offense in the second half. The Bulldogs outgained Michigan 334-101 in the first half, and dominated the Michigan offensive line. The Bulldogs gained over 500 yards on the first five possessions, including more than 400 yards on the ground.
After a 2-2 start to the season, Michigan was unranked and had little chance of making the College Football Playoff. Head coach Jim Harbaugh was also on the hot seat, as the Wolverines had not won a conference title in seven years. This season would be Harbaugh’s first without winning the Big Ten title and advancing to the College Football Playoff. After a disappointing defeat against Ohio State, Michigan’s season ended with this disappointing loss.
The third-ranked Bulldogs took advantage of Michigan’s early struggles, and dominated the first half. Georgia scored on its first five possessions and held Michigan scoreless until late in the fourth quarter. In addition to the lopsided score, Georgia’s defense allowed over 500 yards, which is the second-lowest total in Michigan’s history. Michigan was able to get one first down in the first half, but ultimately punted the ball back to Georgia, who scored twice in the final three minutes.
Bleacher Report previews game
The college football playoff has arrived and Michigan is in the spotlight once again. This is Michigan’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff, and the Bulldogs are back for the second time in three years. Last time, Georgia lost to Alabama in the championship game, but the Wolverines hope to avoid a rematch. Bleacher Report’s previews Michigan Georgia football game will give you a heads up on what to expect.
While the Spartans haven’t lived up to their preseason hype, they’ve played some stingy defense, and their average defense allowed only 47 points per game. Georgia, on the other hand, has proven that it can stay in the trenches against anyone in the nation, so the Spartans aren’t an easy out. If the Spartans can’t do that, they’ll have to settle for a loss and go home early.
