Samakonasana is a special yoga posture, which is done nowadays as a warm-up all over the world. It is a simple yoga procedure, which does not require much physical force or stretching. It is made up of two Sanskrit words: right angle and posture. During this yoga posture, the body posture also appears like a right angle and hence it is also known as “Straight Angle Pose” in English. Steps to do Straight Angle Pose:

If you are going to practice Samakonasana for the first time, then following steps may help you to make this yoga pose –

  • First of all, lay a mat on a flat ground and stand on it in Tadasana posture.
  • Keep a little distance between both the legs and raise both the hands up and bring them in front of the chest.
  • Now while taking a deep breath, slowly start tilting the body forward and take it up to 90 degrees.
  • During this, keep the knees straight and keep eyes on the ground.
  • Now keep the neck in line with the spine.

Precautions during Straight Angle Pose:

Samakonasana practice is usually done under the supervision of a yoga instructor and during this it is necessary to take the following precautions –

  • First of all, do warm-up and stretching exercises well and do not eat or drink anything just before starting yoga practice.
  • Do not do any action by force or let there be any shock in the body
  • During this, keep full focus on the yoga posture only.

When not to do Straight Angle Pose:

There are some health conditions during which a doctor’s permission should be taken before practising Samakonasana –

  • severe pain or injury to any part of the body
  • dizziness or feeling weak
  • sick or old age
  • high or low BP
  • having respiratory or heart disease
  • being pregnant or menstruating
