Sketching Pencils are one of the most popular and common artistic tools, although they are also used for writing. They are rods covered with a dense shell or rim. This tool finds its practical application not only in creative, educational and work processes, but also in everyday life.

There are a great variety of different pencils on store shelves. They can be divided into two main categories: lead lead and color lead. Simple paints with graphite color and its shades. Accordingly, colored pencils contain multi-colored rods and a variety of colors, so great that you can find on sale sets of these artistic tools, the number of shades of which exceeds 200 pieces.

Simple pencil
Basic simple pencil:

Disposable (regular);
Collet (mechanical);
Full graphic.
A simple pencil looks like a rod framed by wood. The composition of the rod itself is a mixture of graphite and a clay-like material. Depending on the proportions in which these two components are mixed, what shade the instrument will write depends on.

Sometimes you can find another name for a simple pencil – disposable. He received this name for a reason, since its wooden edging is periodically grinded, the lead is gradually consumed until it ends completely. But there is an alternative to such disposable types – collet. Their body can be used many times, and the lead is periodically changed to a new one as needed. A new lead can be inserted into such a reusable shell an infinite number of times. The advantages of this type of pencils are that slate rods of different diameters can be inserted into one shell.

Also, one of the subspecies of simple pencils is the full-graphic version. It is a graphite rod of thickened diameter covered with a thin lacquer shell. Its working surface is large enough that it makes it possible to change color shades and to use various drawing techniques for work and creativity without any restrictions. In addition to the advantages, this type of simple pencil also has its disadvantages. They are quite fragile and brittle, so they find their application mainly in graphic works: sketches, drawings, sketches.

Depending on the density of the lead, all simple pencils are divided into two types: hard and soft. A pencil marked with the letter “M” indicates that you have a soft type in front of you, the letter “T” indicates a hard shaft. Quite often, on the shelves of stationery stores, such as this one, there are models marked “TM”, which indicates the average hardness of the lead.

In European countries, a different marking is used to indicate the hardness of the bar. Manufacturers use the letter “H” to denote hardness, and softness is defined by the letter “B”. For example, a pencil marked “HB” on the body will tell you that this is a hard-soft graphite lead. In addition to these basic alphabetic designations, a numerical value from 1 to 9 is added to them. It turns out that the lightest color will be given by the model with the designation “H9”, and the thickest line will be obtained from the instrument marked with the value “B9”.

These markings are rather arbitrary, and it is quite difficult to determine 100% accurately the hardness of the lead. Different countries and manufacturers differ in the degree of softness and hardness of the lead of the pencils produced like paint brushes.

If a simple pencil is often used for work, study, drawing, then it is advisable to buy pencils in Ukraine of several types and different density of the lead.

Colour pencils
Colored pencils have long been a favorite drawing and coloring tool for both children and adults. They are easy to use, do not require any special skills and are affordable. Of course, there are specialized art series of these stationery attributes that are in a fairly high budget segment, but you can often buy sketching pencils inexpensively.

There are several types of colored pencils:

Plain (wooden);
Watercolor;
Wax;
Plastic.
Traditionally, and most often, ordinary wooden colored pencils are used, the characteristics of which are similar to simple ones. The main difference is that dye is added to a mixture of lead and clay. They will also differ in hardness and color intensity.

Watercolor pencils are quite popular among children and adults. They are unique in their kind as they combine the different characteristics of crayon and watercolor paint. It is enough to walk over the finished drawing with a wet brush and a “watercolor effect” will appear on it. They are actively used in their work by both professional artists and amateurs.

Wax pencils are predominantly the choice of young artists. This look was to the taste of caring parents, mainly with its safe composition: natural wax and food coloring. They have a one-piece rod design, while being conveniently placed in the hand and not sticking to the skin. The line in such models is quite wide and dense, so they are extremely rarely used for sketching or drawing small details.

Plastic pencils are a fairly new look for this artistic accessory. Mostly, such pencils are purchased for children, since the days are very soft and bright. At the same time, they have an economical consumption and are easy to sharpen.

There are other types of sketching pencils that professional artists mainly use in their work. Unlike the above types, they require certain skills and abilities.

Despite the wide variety of choices, in order for the use of pencils to be enjoyable, they all must be united by the main parameters: high quality, ease of use, affordable price and safety.
