Here are 12 of my summer beauty essentials, from dry shampoo to skincare. These are the products I trust and use.
Although my passion for nutrition and health began with my body, it didn’t take long before it grew to include what goes on my body. It can be overwhelming to find non-toxic beauty products. There are so many options. So I thought I would share some of my favorite summer beauty must-haves.
This body oil is 15% off with the code Nikole15 It gives your skin a beautiful summer glow and is also the perfect ‘pure fragrance’. It makes you smell amazing without any toxic chemicals! It is super hydrating and not greasy, like many body oils. It also contains my favorite oils like seabuckthorn and jojoba. It’s great to use right after a shower to lock in the moisture.
Sunscreen is a must-have summer item. A mineral sunscreen is my preference for my face. This has a lot of clean ingredients. It is easy to apply and works as a natural primer. It is very matte, so it can be used as a base to your makeup. It blends in well, it isn’t as thick or white as many natural sunscreens. It has a slight tint and provides some coverage. This is great for me as it covers the days when I don’t feel like wearing makeup. (Which, let’s face it, is most days these days, I’m a busy mother!) it still evens out my skin.
Lip balms are something I’m very particular about. You can call me a lip-balm snob, but I tried many and none of them worked for me. So I made my own. This lip butter by BeautyNut Skincare has a super buttery texture (hence its name). It’s the perfect combination to keep your lips nourished, moisturized and feeling loved every day. I swear I have at least 10 tubs of it in my house, and all my bags (including Sage’s diaper bag), because I cannot live without it. It would only take 4 items to leave the house if I had to carry it with me: my phone, wallet and keys, as well as lip butter. It can be used as an all-purpose moisturizer, thanks to its superhydrating properties and large size. Think glue stick!
Multi-Purpose Stick for Cheek and Lip
I love a multi-purpose product, and this one has become a summer favorite! It’s subtle and natural, and I apply it to my cheeks and lips. It is creamy and easily melts into skin so I prefer to apply it directly with my fingertips. All the colours are beautiful, but I prefer ‘All Of Me” and ‘Out Last”. Ilia has been my favorite natural makeup line for the past year, and I have about 6 products that I love from them. You can see my 5 minute mommy makeup routine to find out which products I use.
Is anyone still washing their hair daily these days? Since I discovered how wonderful it is for hair not to wash it every day (and not strip it of all the good oils), I have been trying to extend the time between washes as much as possible. Dry shampoo is my secret weapon! I no longer use the traditional stuff because it made my hair look . I prefer natural products that are simple and clean. I feel good about what I put on my body. This (sold locally by Joy’s company, Joyous Health) absorbs excess oil and blends in well. It also leaves a delicious scent! You won’t have a white, powdery mess on the head if you use one of their products for your light and dark hair.
I’m comfortable using sunscreen on Sage. It was what we both wore during our recent family vacation to Florida. It blends in well, even though it is thick. It’s not easy to apply sunscreen when you spend long hours on the beach or out in the sun. This sunscreen sticks to your skin! This sunscreen is great for the whole family. We can also get the larger tube. It’s much easier than buying one for Sage and one for us.
Finally, natural deodorants that actually work! PitRefresh from BeautyNut Skincare is a refreshing citrus scent with bergamot, lime and it glides on like a paste and melts in like body butter. It can be applied to your pits, or you can rub it into your hands if you are in a hurry. Apply it once in the morning to keep your skin fresh all day.
I advise not using baking soda after waxing or shaving.
Rose Water Toner
This product is my holy grail and I have been using it religiously for at least 6 years. It’s my go-to product! It is a great product that I use every day! It can also be used after a shower to balance my skin’s pH levels and protect my skin from the drying effects that tap water has on it. You will love it! You’ll be able to thank me later
Tip: It can be taken to the beach with you as a cooling spray and works well as a natural make-up setting spray.
Vitamin C Serum
This product is a 2 and 1. It also contains Hyaluronic acid. It glides on the skin easily and sinks in. Vitamin C is a nourishing and repair agent. I apply it right after I have toned my moisturizer.
The world of oils has been a wonderful place to be in the last few years. Another multi-purpose product is the skin elixir , which can be used to cleanse or moisturize. It is rich in nourishing ingredients such as jojoba oil and sea buckthorn. It smells amazing. This serum can be used under my regular moisturizer in winter when I feel that I need more nourishment. But, I also love layering it on top of my other serums during summer and using it as a moisturizer. It is very smooth and can be used as a base for makeup. It doesn’t take much to get the desired results. A little goes a very long way. It’s almost time to finish my first bottle. I’ve had it for nearly a year so it’s definitely a long-lasting product.
Nothing is more satisfying than applying your favorite lipstick or lip balm over freshly exfoliated lips. This lip gloss by BeautyNut Skincare is a great way to give my lips a little extra love. This helps to plump up your lips naturally by increasing blood flow! You can choose whether you like sweet or salty. The margarita-inspired sea salt & lime is the ideal start to your summer vacation. While the sugar honey is sweetened with honey, the sugar honey is softening and sweetening. You won’t be able to stop yourself from eating it! This extra pampering step is something I enjoy 1-2 times per week. Then, I follow up with my lip butter for the skin-loving benefits of the nourishing oils.
Since discovering this stuff a few years ago, I swear I have bought 4 bottles. It’s handy to have in my shower, so I can easily grab it and exfoliate in the shower. (I do this about once a week). It smoothens my skin and leaves it soft enough for any serums or moisturizers to soak in. The french green clay and sea-kelp give my skin a lovely green hue. Matt even uses this scrub in the shower.
